When will you announce the winners and finalists of the next festival?
February 25th, 2011

Are there awards?
Yes.  Awards will be presented to the best film in each of the main competitive categories along with numerous Special Jury Prizes during the annual Mountain Film Festival Awards Ceremony and Dinner.  Screenplay awards are awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place and 10 Official Finalists in both the Feature and Short script competitions.

Are there cash prizes?
Yes. There are cash prizes for the Grand Jury Prize as well as the Screenplay Competition.

How are the winners selected for the festival?
Films submitted to the Festival are reviewed by our programming department, which evaluates each film, looking for the best in new American and International cinema.

What is the submission fee?
Early Bird - Short: $20 / Feature: $25
Deadline - Short: $25 / Feature: $30
Late Deadline - Short: $30 / Feature: $35
Final Deadline - Short: $45 / Feature: $55

What are the deadlines?
Early Bird Deadline - August 10
Regular Deadline - October 10
Late Deadline - December 10
Final Deadline - January 10


How long is a short film?
Films under 50 minutes are considered short films.

How long is a feature film?
Films 50 minutes and over are considered feature films.

What are the categories of films accepted?
MFF accepts films of all categories and genres. If we do not have an official category for your film, but we like it, a new category will be created especially for it.

Is there a student fee?
Yes, students may subtract $5 from their entry fee.

Is it a postmarked deadline or received by deadline?
The submissions deadline is a postmarked by deadline.

Do you accept rough cuts/work-in-progress?
Yes, we will review and consider rough cuts and works-in-progress. Please note on the submission what elements are still being worked on.

Should I send a press kit?
No, please do not send a press kit.  If we select your film we will ask for promotional materials.

Can I still submit if my film has distribution or has aired on television?
Yes.

Does my film need to be a World Premiere?
A film does not have to be a premiere to submit to the festival but premiere films are encouraged.

Can I submit more then one film?
Yes, but each film must have its own submission form filled out and fee paid.

Do you accept multiple submissions on one DVD?
Yes, see above. If on VHS, only one film per tape please.

Will my tape or DVD be returned?
Films will only be returned if the filmmaker includes a self-addressed, stamped envelope for return.

When will you announce the winners?
Award winners will be announced February 25, 2011 on this website and by international press release.

What are the acceptable submission screening formats for your festival?
For the submission process, we can screen DVDs (Region 0 or 1), VHS (NTSC) tapes, or mini-DV tapes. 

Can I get confirmation that you received my submission?
Yes, please send a self-addressed stamped postcard.

If my film is not chosen, may I speak with a programmer for notes or feedback?
Unfortunately due to time constraints and the large number of submissions, we are unable to give individual feedback.
